Exploring Sin City on a Plant-Based Diet

Planning a trip to Sin City and worried about finding plant-based options? Las Vegas is surprisingly vegan-friendly if you know where to look! Follow along with The Leaf and Luggage as we share our trip, featuring seamless travel tips, incredible fully vegan restaurants, and the best plant-based bites right on the Strip.

Getting There & Staying on the Strip

  • Flight & Airport Eats: We flew American Airlines from Chicago to Las Vegas Terminal 3. Bonus points to Chicago’s airport for offering a fantastic vegan burrito from Burrito Beach and a soy milk latte from Starbucks. American Airlines also keeps it simple with complimentary vegan-friendly pretzels and Biscoff biscuits onboard.
  • Getting Around: McCarran International Airport is very close to the action. Catching an Uber to the New York-New York Hotel took only about 10–15 minutes.
  • Where We Stayed: We loved our king-sized room at the New York-New York Hotel, which featured fantastic views of the pool, the roller coaster, and distant mountains. Check-in is really easy with online options and physical key kiosks to skip the lines.

Day 1: Pitch-Black Dining & Exploring the Strip

  • Lunch & Snacks: After getting settled, we beat the desert heat with an iced soy coffee from the Hello Kitty truck stationed right outside Beerhaus.

  • Dinner at Blackout Dining: For our first night, we booked a completely unique 7-course vegan meal at Blackout Dining. You enter a pitch-black room with zero light-emitting devices allowed (remember to take off any smart rings or smartwatches, as they can glow in the dark!). Trusting your tastebuds without your sight is a wild, unforgettable sensory experience, and the food was really enjoyable. (Tip: It’s about a 10-minute Uber ride from the Strip).

Day 2: Hot Dogs, Patio Views, and NKOTB

  • Afternoon Hot Dogs: We grabbed lunch at Beerhaus (located at New York-New York), which offers dedicated vegan hot dogs on vegan buns. We shared the city hot dog and the chilli hot dog (the chilli dog was my favourite!). Note: Skip the fries if you’re strict about cross-contamination from shared fryers.

  • Dinner at Spago (Bellagio): We secured an outdoor patio table at Spago inside the Bellagio to enjoy views of the famous Bellagio Fountains (which run every half hour from 6:30 PM to midnight). They feature a dedicated vegan menu boasting wild mushroom risotto, cauliflower steak, and Hong Kong-style tofu. We finished the evening with vegan espresso martinis before catching an incredible New Kids on the Block (NKOTB) concert.

Day 3: Massive Portions, The Sphere, and Asian Cuisine

  • Brunch at The Modern Vegan: Easily a trip highlight! Everything on the menu is 100% vegan, giving you total peace of mind. Portions are massive—we ordered the chicken and vegan waffles (one topped with strawberries and the other with peaches) and honestly could have easily shared a single plate.

  • Afternoon at The Sphere: We checked out The Wizard of Oz experience at The Sphere, which was visually breathtaking.

  • Dinner at Chin Chin: Located right inside the New York-New York Hotel, Chin Chin offers great vegan-friendly Chinese dishes. We shared the aubergine and tofu, garlic bok choy with mushrooms, and steamed rice before heading back to the airport for our American Airlines flight home.

Key Tips for Plant-Based Travellers in Vegas

  1. Explore Off-Strip: Some of the best casual comfort spots and bakeries are located a short rideshare away.
  2. Reservations Matter: For popular fine dining spots on the Strip such as Spago, book well in advance.
